Résumé: Research over the past 20 years has found that mindfulness and self-compassion interventions are associated with a variety of psychological benefits, including reduced stress, anxiety, depression, shame, and posttraumatic stress. The majority of this research has evaluated such interventions delivered by specialists in high-income countries, but recent studies have also shown benefit of such interventions when delivered by non-specialists in low-resource, humanitarian settings. This presentation will describe typical components of mindfulness and self-compassion interventions and provide examples of how these interventions have been implemented and systematically evaluated in diverse settings. We will also discuss how low- versus higher-intensity mindfulness and self-compassion interventions could fit into a stepped care framework to efficiently use resources and maximize impact.
